Isobel: Slow Dance

Isobel, one of our leading #niigirls, hosts a night titled 'Slow Dance' which she cofounded over 2 years ago.

Reminiscing on the long nights at the disco that my mother used to go to in the 70s, she told me about the slow dances that would close the nights; it became the inspiration behind the name ‘Slow Dance’. I co-founded Slow Dance two years ago with my boyfriend and friend, after a group of friends and I threw a zine launch party. We were floating on a boat on the Thames having a mad night and we knew then that we had to make it into a more frequent thing. We started in an empty warehouse, moving onto other venues like Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, The Victoria, and Windmill Brixton - changing the lineup every time. Out initial aim was to create nights for our talented friends and people who we connected to online and so we began with club nights, featuring young upcoming DJs and musicians like Cosmo Pyke, Moonbow, Hudnall and Karmacoma, a platform for the more underground.

We’ll be celebrating our 2nd birthday on April 14th and putting on a special night with music and visual art at Fieldworks in East London. We’re really excited about the lineup for the night, Coby Sey [Whities/NTS/Curl], Japan Blues [NTS/Honest Jon’s], Jerkcurb (live) and Glows b2b Asha.. also featuring paintings and films by Faye Wei Wei, Oli Pearce, Frank Lebon, CSI Tegen, Jacob Read, Kit wp and more.
