I remember falling backwards, not forwards
was gonna say something n then I didn’t
but why finalise things in such a final way now
a while can be anytime.
In a world of increasingly vapid immediacy, we slip between layers of existence, both perpetuating a veil of realism and searching for some sincerity. Trying to navigate a space that is constantly in motion, now more than ever we are looking for a mast to hold on to, something tangible. We exist in the overlap between two sides of a good time: inevitably involved in the lives of one another, we search for this truth consciously and subconsciously, in both the surreal and real, through dreams, reality, and the in-between world that we have constructed for ourselves. With our bodies we create a brand seeking to promote what we are, and what we want to be. In images we commodify our lives in an attempt to capture some part of our being that is lost in the noise, but often this bit of us only really resides in the small moments where we somehow allow ourselves to feel ourselves.
Showcasing works that range from sculpture, to photography, to mixed media and poetry, ‘Reasons to Believe’ is a dreamy experience that attempts to piece together the jigsaw of existence, drawing on arbitrary experience and the ceaseless need for something more. On from 6-9PM on Tuesday, 24th October at Doomed Gallery in Dalston.
